“And I’m sorry If my post seems to be solely anti- Japanese; that is not the case, I’m just more knowledgeable about Japan moreso than the other countries involved. I’d like to remind everyone that every country involved is responsible. Sadly history and heritage will never allow Annan’s foolishly hopeful “harmonious peace.”的时候，我一下子就认可他了。呵呵。
Annan calls for E Asian detent
UN chief Kofi Annan has urged Japan, China and South Korea to overcome their past and reach “harmonious relations”.
You have got to be kidding me. These three countries have such a long and tragic past, you can’t seriously believe for a second that these countries can just set aside their heritage to become “harmonious”. Does Annan have any idea what happened in any of
these countries histories? Chinese dominations (sometimes in brutal oppresive rule) over Asia AND Korea. Korea’s been fought over between Russia/China/Japan since almost the beginning of time
To go to more recent events, how about Japanese
occupation of Asia during WWII era. The atrocities committed the (superior race myth) and “Asia for the asiatics” along with Japanese mindsets of bushido gave them the power to ignore and justify their actions. They STILL to this day have not apologised for their actions (hell even the pope has been able to apologise to the jewish population of europe for its non-intervention in the Holocaust!).
Anyone else remember the rape(s) of nanking?!
Some other reasons why there will never be a “harmonious peace” between these countries:
“South Korea and China have repeatedly voiced protest over Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi’s regular visits to Tokyo’s Yasukuni Shrine, which honours the country’s war dead, including World War II war criminals.
They have also criticised school textbooks issued in Japan, which they say whitewash atrocities committed during its occupation of other Asian nations.
Japan also has running territorial disputes with China and South Korea – over groups of islands and potential gas fields.
We have to be truthful about history Kofi Annan
Such tensions have provoked angry protests in Seoul and Beijing.
Meanwhile China has opposed moves to give Japan equal status as a permanent member of the UN Security Council.”
I sadly have to say that I’m afraid a peace will never be able to exist
between these countries. And I’m sorry If my post seems to be solely anti- Japanese; that is not the case, I’m just more knowledgeable about Japan moreso than the other countries involved. I’d like to remind everyone that every country involved is responsible. Sadly history and heritage will never allow Annan’s foolishly hopeful “harmonious peace.”
